Little egrets, Newington
Remember our post last week about the swallows nesting on a light fitting? In the same place, there’s a very interesting wetland area over the bank behind the pub. Last week we’d seen 3 little egrets and a barn owl there, so we decided to return.
What greeted us the other side was a rare sight: I counted 11 little egrets altogether! They were stood on the bank when we first caught sight of them, but then almost immediately they flew away (bottom picture).
Once again we were in the right place at the right time. We cover quite a few miles and new places when we’re out birding, but we’re often rewarded for our efforts. Scenes like this remind us how lucky we are to see such amazing nature around us.
